About Us

Hi!

I’m Ann, of  Wood and Whimsy Custom Furniture.  In 2013 I painted my first dresser–a solid wood mahogany piece for my daughter’s nursery . It was a fun,  learning experience and it complimented her room nicely. I thought to myself. ‘ I could do this again’ , but with a newborn it just didn’t happen.

A few years later, one of my sons needed a dresser.  A simple request, so we thought . We looked at several new items and were appalled at the quality. As a child of the 70s, I grew up with real wood. Heavy, solid pieces that were passed from one family member to another because it was built to last forever.  But what was found on our shopping trip was the complete opposite.  Even the display items on the sales floor showed was visible damage and evidence of poor construction . All the signs pointed to cheaply made,  massed produced particle board.
Our outing  did not culminate in a purchase but rather an idea.  ‘What not hit some estate sales to  see if we cant find something better and paint it ourselves?’  So that’s what we did. After a  few days of binge-watching  Youtube and a handful of trips to Home Depot  we had completed our first dresser.   And it only took 4 weeks!
The dresser was charcoal grey – hand painted in Rustoleum Chalk Paint ( Yes, we were on that band wagon ) and it came out very nicely.  So nicely that we decided on a whim to list it for local sale. It sold within a weeks time. There was only one way to know if this was a fluke.  We had to do it again.  A couple of furniture flips later we realized that we were onto something and Wood and Whimsy Custom Furniture  was created.
Since those early projects, we have moved from inside the house to the carport to a 2 unit workshop and we are continuing to grow.  We no longer paint by hand. Everything is prepped, sanded or deglossed, primed and sprayed with an industrial coating, durable enough for warehouse floors.
Our business includes myself ,  my husband who does the occasional pickup and three sons who paint and deliver.

Where it all Happens…

From painting in the kitchen to our own workshop and showroom in Rockdale County GA.  We are making slow but steady progress.
